WE PROVIDE SANCTUARY TO EQUINE WHO FIND THEMSELVES IN ABUSIVE, DANGEROUS SITUATIONS.   MANY WERE THROWN AWAY.  THEY WERE HEADED FOR AUCTIONS AND SLAUGHTER.  MANY WERE IN SCARY KILL LOTS.  OTHERS HAD BEEN SEIZED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR NEGLECT.  ALL HAD ONE THING IN COMMON.   NO ONE WANTED THEM.  NO ONE LOVED THEM.  THEY HAD LOST ALL HOPE....UNTIL THEY FOUND THEIR WAY TO US.  WE RESTORE THEIR SHATTERED DIGNITY, BROKEN BODIES, AND FRIGHTENED SOULS.  THEY SOON KNOW THE CERTAINTY OF THEIR NEXT MEAL, GENTLE TREATMENT, AND OF BEING A PRIORITY IN THE LIVES OF THE HUMANS WHO LOVE AND CARE FOR THEM.

OUR STORY

Thomas Foundation Second Chance Horse Rescue began in 2011 when founder, Kim Thomas, took in her first two rescue horses.   Since then, hundreds of equine have been networked to safety by Thomas Foundation.  We rescue, rehab, retrain, and rehome.  Equine are not advertised for adoption.   They are matched and placed with forever homes, who have been vetted and approved.  We require completion of a no rehome/resale contract.  Equine must be returned if their adoptive home can't keep them.   Future plans include offering educational programs to introduce others to our amazing herd.  We believe there is an amazing, spiritual connection between humans and equine.  Our equine are family.  We feel blessed and privileged to have them in our lives.

MISSION AND ASPIRATIONS

Everyone is  loved and respected.  We restore dignity and hope to broken souls.   Blaze was well loved.   She came to us when her elderly owner couldn't physically care for her.   He visits her now.

Update:  Blaze was doing very well.  She was eating great and had gained a lot of weight back.  The morning of August 14, 2019, Blaze wasn't feeling well.  The vet checked her and didn't discover anything other than a heart murmur that we knew she had. Blaze roamed around the barn lot grazing and resting.  Around 1 pm, she looked to be asleep.  When we went over to her, we realized that she had left us.  We loved this amazing mare like we had known her forever.   She was kind and gentle.  She loved children.   She loved us.  She took a huge piece of our hearts with her.  We miss her and know that we will see her on the other side.   Thank you, Blaze.  It was an honor to care for you.  Blaze was laid to rest in Bowie, TX at Pine Hill Pet and Equine Cemetery.
